The Story of the Dunes Pavilion
Standing proudly along the shores of Lake Michigan, the Dunes Pavilion has been a landmark destination for nearly a century. Built in 1930, this iconic Art Deco structure blends timeless architectural elegance with the natural beauty of the Indiana Dunes, creating one of Indiana’s most celebrated waterfront gathering places.
Originally designed as a vibrant hub for beachgoers, the Pavilion welcomed visitors with modern amenities for its time, including bathhouse facilities, concessions, a restaurant, and a rooftop observation deck offering breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. Quickly becoming a beloved destination, the Pavilion played a central role in generations of summer memories along Indiana’s shoreline.
As the decades passed, the historic building faced the challenges of age and changing times. While improvements were made over the years, much of the Pavilion’s original grandeur faded, and portions of the building eventually fell into disuse.
Recognizing its significance to the region, a comprehensive restoration effort began in the 2010s. Through a thoughtful partnership between the State of Indiana and private developers, the Pavilion was carefully revitalized, preserving its historic character while re-imagining it for a new generation of visitors.

Today, the Dunes Pavilion has been transformed into a premier destination where history, hospitality, and the beauty of the Indiana Dunes come together. Guests can enjoy dining and cocktails with panoramic lake views, celebrate special occasions in unique event spaces, and experience one of the region’s most treasured landmarks.
Nearly 100 years after its original debut, the Dunes Pavilion continues to serve as a gateway to the Indiana Dunes – a place where unforgettable experiences, stunning scenery, and rich history meet on the shores of Lake Michigan.
